I’m sure ASTPAI used to be a hardcore band. So much so that a certain major high street retailer has them listed in the ‘metal’ section; but I digress.
The past few times I’ve seen ASTPAI live – and there have been ample opportunities as they seem to be cropping up on more tours than ever before – they’ve showed off a far more slick and polished sound, almost veering towards pop punk at times.
This, their fourth full length, displays a more well-produced sound than previous efforts, although I feel this can be at the detriment of the sound. What could be a hard-edge punk rock album, ends up sounding like a radio friendly rock album which, all too quickly, passes you by. Basically, I put the album on and, without even noticing anything particular from it, it had finished. I’d expect more from ASTPAI if I’m honest.
