The Franceens have a stripped-down garage punk sound that I like very much.
There’s an energy in there that shines through every track and a back-to-basics rawness that shines when they are at their best – rocking out.
While definitely possessing a very old school sound, reminiscent of The Hives at times, they are still a band I’d like very much to catch live in the here and now. I can imagine them putting on a great, sweaty show.
The nine tracks here are given a bright and breezy production job which makes them shine – in fact, I would say I’d prefer it to be a little less produced and rawer – but you can’t have everything. All in all, a great album.
